영어 소설 원서읽기 - <인사이드아웃> CHAPTER.04 단어정리

 

*Jumpy

adjective) 조마조마한

: nervous and worried, especially because you are frightened or guilty

 

* My nerves are shot!

(어쩔줄 모르는 상태) 초조해 죽겠어!!

-"I'm so jumpy, Fear replied. "My nerves are shot"

 

(# 영어소설 원서 책에는 "My nerves are shot!" 이라고 되어있으나 영화 영어 자막에는

"My nerves are shoceked"라고 표기되었다. 원서에  표기된 Nerves are shot! 이 맞는 표기 같은데

영어 자막 하신분이 잘못 다신 것 같다... )

 

 

*Reassure

verb ) 안심시키다 (=set sb’s mind at rest)

: to comfort someone and stop them from worrying

- Joy tried to reassure them.

 

 

*Head off to

phrasal verb ) ~로 향하다, ~을 하러 가다

: to start a journey or leave a place

- Joy called to the other Emotions as they head off to sleep.

 

 

 

 

*Haunted

adjective) 귀신[유령]이 나오는

: A haunted building or other place is one where a ghost regularly appears.

- The car landed in front of a frightening haunted house with a mouse ghost.

 

 

 

 

 

*Eerily

adverb) 무시무시하게, 무서워하여; 불가사의하게

: in a strange, frightening, and mysterious way

 -  The mouse looked like a zombie as it eerily said, "Come live with me, Riley".

 

*Keel over

phrasal verb) (특히 몸이 좋지 않아서) 쓰러지다[넘어지다]

: to fall over suddenly, to collapse suddenly

- Then it keeled over and died!

 

 

 

*In charge of

phrasal verb) ~를 담당하는, 책임지는

: responsible for something or someone

 

 

*Frown

Verb) 얼굴[눈살]을 찌푸리다[찡그리다]

: When someone frowns, their eyebrows become drawn together,

because they are annoyed, worried, or puzzled, 

or because they are concentrating.

 -   Who's in charge of programming down there? Joy said frowning.

 

 

 

 

 

*Duck

 Verb ) (머리나 몸을) 휙[쑥] 수그리다[숨기다]

:  If you duck, you move your head or the top half of your body quickly downwards 

to avoid something that might hit you, or to avoid being seen.

- She ducked behind the console and messed with a few wires and switches,

resetting the system.

 

 

*Rig

Verb ) (부정한 수법으로) 조작하다 (=fix)

: to arrange dishonestly for the result of something,

for example an election, to be changed

- Joy rigged it so the memory played in Riley's mind like a dream

instead of what dream productions had put on.

 

 

 

 

 

*Mimic

Verb ) …처럼 보이다, …을 모방하다[흉내내다] (=imitate)

: If someone or something mimics another person or thing, 

they try to be like them. (=imitate)

 

*Relive

Verb ) (특히 상상 속에서) 다시 체험하다

: If you relive something that has happened to you in the past,

 you remember it and imagine that you are experiencing it again.

- Joy skated around Headquarters, mimicking Riley and reliving the happy memory.
