 전시소개 
KT&G 상상마당은 20세기 거장 시리즈 여섯 번째 주인공으로 영국의 혁명적인 패션 사진가 '노만 파킨슨(1913-1990)' 을 소개합니다.
패션지 『보그(Vogue)』, 『하퍼스 바자(Harper's Bazaar)』의 사진가로 잘 알려진 노만 파킨슨은 당시 전형적이었던 실내 스튜디오 촬영 형식을 깨고 역동적이고 생동감 있는 야외 배경의 패션 사진을 만들어 낸 선구자입니다. 이번 전시에서는 영국의 낭만적인 전원 풍경과 활기찬 도시, 음산한 런던의 뒷골목부터 왕실 가족이 머무는 화려한 궁전에 이르기까지, 고전을 넘어 현대의 예술가들에게 영감을 주는 작품 150여 점을 선보입니다.

패션 매거진 보그(VOGUE)의 포토그래퍼 '노만 피킨슨'.

 

 

 

노만 파킨슨전을 보고 온지 꽤나 지났는데 이제서야 찍어온 기록들을 간략히 풀어본다.

사실 나는 부산 시민회관에서 전시를 일찌감치 보고 왔는데 여기는 현재 마감된 전시이지만 아직 서울권에서는 계속

진행중인 전시이므로 전시 일자 관련 정보는 서울 전시를 기준으로 가져왔다.

 

부산 시민회관의 경우는 '멜론'에 가입된 회원이면 입장료 없이 무료로 관람 티켓을 받을 수 있었다.

특별히 VIP 등급이 아니라도 상관없었다.

 

사실 티스토리 블로그를 오픈하기 전에 올해 봄쯤에 다녀왔던 전시였는데 블로그 스킨에 적용해 놓은 이미지가 바로

여기 노만 파킨슨전에서 직접 찍어온 사진들 중 하나를 골라서 스킨으로 걸어 둔 것이다.

포토그래퍼와 모델 둘 다 가장 서로를 집중적으로 응시하고 있는 강렬한 순간을 포착한 이미지라는 생각이 들어

뭔가 "fancy sailor"라는 내 티스토리 아이디에 어울리는 비슷한 느낌이 아닐까 라는 생각으로 걸어놨다.

 

(fancy가 뭔가 강렬하고 매혹적인 것들을 의미하는 단어인데, 성적인 단어로 표현되기도 하고 또 다른 뜻 중에 명사로 

'상상', '공상'을 의미하기도 한다는 것을 사전 검색을 통해서 알게 되었다.

그러니까 fancy sailor 즉, 상상선원. 강렬하고 매력적인 것을 쫒는 사람, 혹은 공상을 쫓는 사람. 등등 여러가지 의미로

옛날부터 머릿속에서 만들어 놓은 단어 였는데 지금의 블로그 주소 아이디로 사용중. 그냥 개인적인 사설.)

 

무튼 다시 전시 얘기를 하자면, 패션 사진가로 열심히 활동했던 그의 포트폴리오를 한 곳에 쭉 나열해놓은

전시 같은 느낌이었는데 그 당시 셀럽들과 모델들을 찍은 화려한 사진들 이외에도 순수하게 거리의 모습을 담았던

'스트리트 포토'도 함께 감상 할 수 있다.

 

사실 그 시절의 패션지에 실리는 화보가 대체적으로 어떤 분위기와 느낌이었는가는 내가 알 수 없지만

대부분 스튜디오에서 마치 그리스 로마의 고전 조각들을 흉내 낸 것 마냥 정적인 포즈로 촬영한 패션 포토들이 많았었다고 한다.

 

그에 비해 로만 파킨슨의 사진 속 모델들이 담긴 배경을 보면 정말 많은 야외 촬영을 시도 했음을 엿볼 수 있는데

정적이고 딱딱한 분위기와 상반되는 다양한 표정과 포즈의 역동적이고 생동감 느껴지는 화보가

그 당시로썬 파격적이고 꽤나 혁명적인 작품 스타일이었지 않을까.

그래서 그런지 그의 사진은 상업을 목적으로 한 패션 주제의 사진이면서도 왠지 모르게 다큐멘터리나 순수 사진에서

느낄 수 있는 '스토리' 같은 것들이 그의 작품 안에서도 동시에 느껴지는 기분 이었다. 

 

개인적으로는 현대의 상업 사진 보다는 다큐멘터리, 순수 예술 사진 전시를 훨씬 더 흥미있어 하는 편인데

과거의 패션화보 작품이라서 그런지 클래식 하면서도 빈티지함이 덧대어 있고 과거의 '상업'사진 이지만 현재의 시각에서는

전혀 상업적인 느낌과는 또 다르게 정형화 되지 않은 느낌들이 구석 구석 돋보이는 전시 였다.

It's been a while since I watched Norman Parkinson's, and now I'm going to briefly reveal the records I've taken.
Actually, I've seen the exhibition at the Busan Citizens' Hall, and it's currently closed here, but it's still in Seoul.
Since the exhibition is ongoing, information on the date of the exhibition was brought based on the exhibition in Seoul.

In the case of the Busan Citizens' Hall, members of the "Melon" could receive free admission tickets without admission fees.
It didn't matter if it wasn't a VIP rating.

Actually, before I opened the T-story blog, I went to an exhibition around this spring, and the image that I applied to the blog skin is...
Here's one of the photos I picked up from Norman Parkinson's and hung it up with skin.
I think both the photographer and the model captured the most intense moment of staring at each other.
I put it up thinking that something similar would fit my T-story ID "fancy mail."

(fancy is a word that means something intense and enchanting, which is expressed in sexual terms, and one of its other meanings is a noun.
I learned through a preliminary search that it also means "imagination" and "fantasy."
So fancy sailor, or imaginary sailor. A person who chases something intense and attractive, or a person who chases. in many ways
It's a word that I've been using in my head since a long time ago, but I'm using it as my blog address ID. It's a personal editorial.

Anyway, to talk about the exhibition again, he's been working hard as a fashion photographer, and he's listed his portfolio in one place.
It felt like an exhibition, and in addition to the colorful pictures of celebrities and models at the time, it was purely street-like.

Actually, I don't know what kind of atmosphere and feeling the pictorials in those fashion magazines were.
In most studios, there were many fashion photos taken in static poses as if they were imitating classical pieces of Greece and Rome.
In contrast, the background of Roman Parkinson's photographs suggests that he's tried to shoot so many outdoor scenes.
A dynamic, lively pictorial of various facial expressions and poses contrary to the static, rigid atmosphere.
At that time, I think it was an unconventional and revolutionary style.
So maybe that's why his photo is a commercial fashion theme, but somehow it's a documentary or a pure photo.
Things like "story" that I could feel were felt in his work at the same time.

Personally, I'm much more interested in documentaries and exhibitions of pure art photographs than in modern commercial photography.
Maybe because it's a fashion pictorial from the past, it's classic and vintage, and it's a commercial photo from the past, but from the present point of view,
Unlike the commercial feeling at all, the exhibition was full of unformatted feelings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

현재 블로그 스킨으로 적용 해 놓은 바로 이 사진.

굉장히 강렬하고 매혹적인 느낌인데 포토그래퍼가 도대체 하의를 왜 탈의하고

팬티만 입고 있는지에 대해서는 관람 당시에도 의문 이었다... 아니면 저 포토그래퍼 또한 모델이었을까?

포토그래퍼와 모델 사이의 평범하지 않은 관계를 괜히 상상해 보게 만드는 이미지다.

It's a very powerful and fascinating feeling, but why would a photographer take off his bottom?
It was also questionable at the time of viewing whether he was wearing only underwear... Or was that photographer also a model?
It is an image that makes us imagine the unusual relationship between photographers and models.

 

 

 

 

 

지금은 네온 사인 번짐 효과를 표현한 수 많은 사진들이 있어 별 특별하지도 않지만

저 당시의 패션지에 저렇게 정신이 혼란스러운 듯한 느낌을 주는 사진이 실렸다는 것은

보는 이에게 꽤나 신선한 자극 이었을 것 같다.

 

 

Now, there's a lot of pictures that represent the effect of neon sign smudging, so it's not that special.
That fashion magazine at that time had a photo that seemed so distracting.
